Great comfortable shoe for winter

My occupation is office setting and I did not immediately have a need for this type of shoe. However i did have a need to get out of sneakers for the winter and step into something durable, waterproof, comfortable, ie - the type of shoe i can get wet, dirty, in snow and not worry much about getting soaked or freezing. i stand on my feet about 1/2 of the day (including walking) with shoes on. my criteria when shopping included comfort, some warmth, waterproof (for rain and snow) and a durable nose so that if i had to kick a wooden box or some frozen snow - that i would not be killing my toes doing it. i remembered back to some old timberlands i had for years and that i cared not to wear those at all, let alone wear them for a full 5 months of cold weather every day. with this particular wolverine pair, i opted for the non-comp toe and found that to be sufficient for my needs. this shoe is definitely comfortable. even though the exterior is leather, the interior of the leather is padded and lined with soft material, that keeps warmth as well as additional comfort. the insole is also very cushiony and i liked this for comfort, but the insole liners easily peel away from the insoles rather quickly. this is partly due to sweat because they are so well insulated, if you're not wearing a moisture wicking sock, you will initially sweat in the first days of use and that buildup will cause some odor and wetness in the shoe, even under the insole. i suggesr stuffing the shoe overnight with some towel paper and taking the insoles out overnight to absorb the moisture faster. eventually you will get used to it and tendency to sweat will be reduced unless you're constantly working on your feet at room temperature in these shoes. The soles of these shoes are great, very grippy on terrain, lawns, asphalt, concrete, etc. they do not do so well with painted floors such as those in manufacturing enviroments, a bit slippery. but as the soles wear in, they feel more secure on surfaces like that. break in for me took a full week. after broken in, i decided to change out the insoles with something like Superfeet or any other that suits your needs. for my foot - i found that the superfeet copper was the best feel. i have years to wear any type of shoe that resembles a boot, but after just 2 weeks now with this shoe, i forget i'm wearing them as in they are not a burden on my feet and they do not get in the way of ankle movement. aside from poor insole quality, the rest of this shoe is very sturdy and with the 1 year warranty and price point, it was an incentive to try it vs. the higher priced brands such as Irish Setter and Red Wing (which I have comparison tried side-by-side with the wolverines). i recommend this shoe, you would not be disappointed. i cannot speak to rough use as i said i'm not in construction or outdoor work, but as a daily winter full-time sneaker replacement, this shoe has everything i need.
