Disappointed. Doesn't live up to the usual standard of the 1k line It really pains me to leave a negative review of these boots, because I love my Wolverine 1000 Miles so much. I am a bit of a boot addict, and have too many pairs from many different brands -- Chippewa, Red Wing, Wolverine, Clark's, etc. Of all the boots I own, my Wolverine 1000 Mile originals are my absolute favorite. They fit like a glove, they are extremely comfortable, even for long walks, and they are the sharpest looking pair I own. Since most of my boots have a leather, cork, or crepe outsole, I was in the market for a pair of lugged sole boots that I can use for the winter months. Something stylish, yet with better traction on the snowy city streets and sidewalks. When I came across the Duvalls, I thought they were perfect. If they fit like my other 1000 miles, but with a lugged sole, then they were essentially perfect for what I was looking for. I purchased them without hesitation. When they arrived, I was excited with the way they looked. I ordered the "brown leather", and it is a nice color with some good looking depth to it. When I put them on they felt comfortable enough, but they didn't seem to fit in the same way as my 1000 Mile Originals. Even though they are the same size, they don't seem to be built on the same last, as the Duvalls feel wider and flatter, without the same amount of arch support as the Originals. Length-wise, they seem to fit fine. I was a bit disappointed, but after some deliberation, decided to keep them, and figured they'd get more comfortable as they broke in. But that didn't really end up being the case. They aren't UNcomfortable, just not nearly as comfortable as the originals. But, the comfort is actually the least of my concerns, as I expected them to be a little clunkier and less comfortable than the more streamlined Originals. After all, they have a heavier lugged sole. What I didn't expect, is that the traction has been TERRIBLE. I had my first opportunity to wear them today during a snowfall. I was actually excited for my 20 minute walk home, as this is essentially the reason I bought these boots. I'd consider the amount of snow to be not much more than a "dusting", with a light covering on the sidewalks. Yet, my Duvalls had me feeling like I was wearing ice skates. Every step felt like I might slip and fall. I thought maybe it was a particularly slippery type of snow, perhaps a wintry mix of sorts, and decided not to totally blame the boots just yet. However, after getting home and changing into my gym clothes, and putting on 5 year old sneakers that have next to no grip on them, I headed back out to walk a few blocks to the gym. To my surprise, my flat, grip-less sneakers had infinitely better traction than the Duvalls. I'm no expert on Vibram soles, but I can only hope that somehow the outsoles get grippier as they "break in" a bit. The icing on the cake is that these boots have turned all of my socks orange. Between the underwhelming comfort, the atrocious traction, and the stained socks... I have to say I am quite disappointed with this purchase.

The sole on the Duvall is not intended to be slip resistant. If you need further assistance please reach out to our 1000 Mile Specialist at 866.699.7369. We'd be happy to be of assistance. Thank you.

Great boot - laces need improvement This boot looks great and is extremely comfortable after just a few wears to break it in. The construction is top notch and the leather quality is amazing. I found that I needed to get a size smaller then I usually do for Wolverine products. My only gripe is the laces. The laces that come with these boots wore out very quickly. One snapped off in my hand after less then a dozen wears. The replacement laces offered on the site are a 45 inches, opposed to the 52 inch laces I pulled off my Duvall Boot and is not offered in a style consistent with the original.

Well, here we go again... I have the Evans boot love it but it took my three pairs to figure out that I did: My normal size, 1/2 size down, then one full size down before getting that sweet spot. Knowing this, I ordered the Duvall one full size down...well bollocks. It's too big and having just placed a replacement order, we'll see if 10.5 hits that sweet spot. But down 1.5 in sizing tells me there's a serious sizing issue at Wolverine and the fact that the sizing is all over the board in the 1000 Mile and Since 1883 (I also ordered the Waterproof Cort boot with the Duvall but that is also too big) is worrisome. Even more so given the price of the boots!! Once the new sizes get here, I'll update my reviews accordingly.

Recommendable boots Good-looking boots made with quality leather and a long-lasting, comfortable sole. A longer break-in time than expected, but that's part of the process. I had a lace break the second time I put them on; annoying, but easy to fix. Perhaps a stronger lace could be selected in future? Also, some stitching at the toe is coming undone. So far, it hasn't been an issue. Good boots from a reputable company; can't go wrong there.
